Crosville
Motor Services Ltd Fleet No EOG200 Registration number B200 DTU. This
bus has a Leyland Olympian chassis (ON1858), built at Leylands plant in
Workington, Cumbria and is fitted with a dual purpose body (26066/2),
bulit by Leyland subsidiary Eastern Coachworks of Lowestoft. The
vehicle has a Gardner 6LXB engine with seats for 72 passengers and
eight standing. With two companions EOG201 & EOG202 all delivered
in 1985 wearing Crosville's "Town Lynx" livery. These buses were
primarily for use on Crosvilles fast growing X7 service from Chester to
Liverpool via Ellesmere Port.
EOG200 continued to ply it's trade on this route including an extension
north to Southport (X8), for a number of years, firstly in it's
Brunswick Green & Cream livery, as you see it now in the museum,
subsequently in Crosvilles last livery with a large measure of red
perhaps recalling the days when Crosville buses were painted in LMS red.
When Crosville was finally dismembered it passed to PMT of Stoke on
Trent and was then painted in its silver/red/yellow livery which was
used for such vehicles and later in the red and yellow livery.
Subsequently PMT passed to Badgerline and then to First Bus. When
Badgerline merged with Grampian Regional Transport, First Bus became
First Bus Group.
EOG200's glory days were now over and in its First livery it eked out
an existence on even lowlier local and school services. In the summer
of 2012 it became the last former Crosville vehicle to remain in use.
It had remained at the same depot all its working life. In recognition
of this, First Bus Group generously donated the bus to Wirral Transport
Museum for restoration.
