Corporation Transport Fleet No. 152, registration No. GCM152E was
purchased in 1967. 152 was one of a batch of 15 Leyland Titan PD2/37
models delivered between April and September 1967. They were the last
traditional "half cab", rear entrance buses delivered to Birkenhead.
They were the last vehicles to be supplied to the borough with bodies
built by Massey Brothers of Wigan. They were the only Birkenhead buses
fitted with air brakes instead of the usual vacuum brakes.
With a normal life expectancy of 15 years 152's service life was
shortened due to the urgent need to convert to one man operation. The
bus was disposed of in 1977. Further service was seen at Lofty's
coaches of Mickle Trafford being used as a school bus.
In 2000 152 was restored to full working order by the volunteers at
Wirral Transport Museum, supported by a £15,000 Hamilton Quarter
European grant. The Ovaltine advert is carried in recognition of the
company's contribution to sister exhibit 105.
