Important Information regarding the temporary closure of the museum.

The refurbishment works will then begin lasting until at least the 8th May 2018. All areas of the museum will be closed to the public with the exception of the tram parking area and display boards along the left hand wall. The tram service is likely to operate on Sunday's only during January and February. The service will then be reviewed and will hopefully be able to run on Saturdays as well. Pirates Day
The museum was invaded by Pirates and their adult captives (Mums and Dads) on Saturday 18th November. We held to ransom for a Prize while all the little Pirates scoured the museum with their treasure map looking for vital clues that would lead them to claim the prize. A free mini chocolate bar was given to all children who came dressed as a pirate. There were lots of pirates on the trams seeking clues to the whereabouts of the hidden treasure, the conductor even managed to escape having to walk the plank. After a very busy afternoon all the pirates went home having had a good day.

Wirral Transport Museum
Wirral Transport Museum is soon to undergo a massive transformation. The Taylor Street premises will be mostly closed to the public probably until early May 2018. The area in the picture below, known by the volunteers as Warrington Land as that is where the Warrington tram restoration bagan, will soon be unrecognisable. The roller shutter to the far right will be a new entrance to the museum. The old Ferry toll booths seen here in this picture will form part of our new entrance. One will be using an original turnstile at the entrance while the other will be used as a gift shop display area. We will  have a new cafeteria area with seating and new toilets. We will now also have full disabled access to both levels of the museum for the first time. Please keep checking back and look at our facebook page for the latest updates.

Restored Crosville double decker fleet number EOG200 was given a test run when it was moved out of the way so that Wallasey 106 could be moved. The gearbox, which was thought to be problematic, turned out to be fine. It is hoped that this bus will soon be in service with the other buses at Wirral Transport Museum.

20th Wirral bus & Tram Show
Despite warnings of heavy rain and high winds - cancelling the tram service was on the cards - the day stayed dry and calm, resulting in crowds of people along the waterfront. Visitor numbers were down on last year due to the dire weather warnings which also resulted in the ferry service being closed for the day, but plenty of people attended the show.

There were a variety of buses filling up the car park on Shore Road including to ex Dublin buses making their way to their new owners in the south of England. A record number of classic cars were at Woodside surrounded by eager enthusiasts and the trade stalls in the museum appeared to be very busy. Traders had travelled from as far as the south coast.

Classic buses were offering a free half hourly trip to New Brighton. Other trips included a run out to Eastham, Port Sunlight, West Kirby and Moreton Shore.

Liverpool's Last Tram Commemoration
Saturday 14th September 1957 saw the last trams run in Liverpool. On Saturday 16th September 2017 we commemorated Liverpool's trams with our very special event. We had Liverpool 245, which was in the last tram parade 60 years ago, we had vintage liverpool buses, the museums very own Tower Wagon, vintage cars and lorries. Vintage Liverpool buses were running FREE heritage bus rides and toward the end of the event saw the finale a procession of vehicles which were around in the late fities creating a very believable street scene from that era. We also unveiled our model Liverpool tram, courtesy of Merseytravel, that was built in 1923/1924 for the Empire Exhibition at Wembley.

On Saturday 19th August Wirral Transport Museum was invaded! Children of all ages and some adults descended on the museum dressed as their favourite Superhero. Superman, Spiderman, Iron man, the Incredible Hulk, Yoda and many more came to ride on the trams and take part in our competition. Even our own Rob Jones came along as one of  the Thunderbirds characters.

80th Anniversary of Birkenheads Last Trams
Birkenhead's last surviving elctric tram - open top car 20 was the star attraction of the commemoration of Birkenhead's Tramways. 80 years ago the last trams ran in Birkenhead on 15th July 1937 for the last time. Car 20 and Hong Kong car 70, sporting a Birkenhead livery, were both in service on this day. The final route to close was the Oxton and Claughton Circle route where upon it was replaced by the bus. A heritage Birkenhead Corporation bus was giving FREE rides around the town.

A Teddy Bears Day Out
Once again there were lots of teddies who came to our Teddy Bear Day for a ride on the trams accompanied by their human guardians.  We had our popular competition with a free packet of sweets for each entry form submitted  which then went into our prize draw.  There was lots to see and do, Teddy Bears picnic, facepainting, the refreshment stall and our competition. A good day was had by all.

Easter Egg Hunt
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt and quiz saw lots of little explorers and their Mums and Dads riding the trams and then going into the museum to find the clues for the quiz. Both days were really busy and we gave out a lot of Creme eggs. The prize draw winning tickets were pulled and the winners notified.

A night at the Museum
Our second event of the year was very well attended with lots of people both young and old coming to see the museum lit up by multicoloured lights and a laser light show. The evening saw the trams full with plenty of people taking the oppotunity see and photograph the trams running in the dark with all their light on.

Chinese New Year
Our first event of the year celebrated Chinese New Year, the year of the Rooster. We had a two tram service using both our Hong Kong cars. Passenger numbers were up with all trams full.
For this event the MTPS joined forces with Birkenhead First to bring you cultural performances from China Spirit. They performed a two lion dance with a Chinese dragon. There were also displays of Kung Fu and Tai Chi. We would like to thank both Birkenhead First and China Spirit for making this event so successful.
